Another view of the mirror. The other fish is in the net because we often have multiple fish on at the same time. The other fish is a smaller fish. The average fish on the St. Lawrence is about seventeen pounds, and they are infrequent. We do not weigh every fish as some people do. We do not photograph the smaller fish. They are practice for us. What we do however is respect them as much as the larger fish, return them to the water in reasonable time which is under five minutes, and wait until we can catch them when they have grown larger. We do not gill lift, and we unhook on soft grass or sand. When gravel or rough surfaces are the terra firma, we use an unhooking mat. It was an alien idea to us at first, but our unhooking mat is also a weigh sling. Why not do something to keep the fish from harm? It is not a sissy thing to use an unhooking mat, try it.
