Here I am using a smaller john boat to deliver about ten gallons
of maize as chum attracter. By August a large conglomeration of weed has
grown. This makes ledger fishing difficult. The chum is placed in clear
areas and marked with marker buoys. This ensures clear casts into areas
clear of weed and hook baits can be placed over the chum beds. Many five
gallons buckets of cooked maize, birdseed blends, barley and feed store
mixes are brought along on these trips. These trips involve good preparation
and are of no small expense but we are an exception to the small amount
of gear you may want to take. In back of me is water as far as the horizon
can see. Miles of islands, bays, and diverse river features. This
is the huge body of water known as the lake of St. Lawrence which
is the portion of the river between the FDR dam and the Iroquois Dam. Big
water, large natural forage and big fish potential. The Carp Research Team
maintains this as a necessity for the production of specimen sized large
carp.
