Almost in. Look at that ugly stick bend. This was a good fight. A carp close in to shore will make a last powerful attempt to reach deeper water. Being traditional American carpers we did not yet use a net. Carp were brought ashore by gill sweep. I have brought hundreds of carp to shore this way but no longer do so, as it may injure or infect the gills. However this is a technique practiced American carpers use.
