Tough fishing, the spawn was on. Early spawn at that. Very rare thrashing occurring occasionally in the reeds. That is not an excuse, just information  for many of us which study the spawn period. Stubbornly I stuck to double 20 mm snowman boilies. Smaller baits and rigs or switching to another bait may have made a difference. We spent  two of our three day trip in the main river which awarded me with one dropped run. The spawn is a little late at this time of the year as very cold weather hung over the St. Lawrence well into mid June. The date of this capture of a 34 lb common is 6/20/02 and our local friends tell us the weather has been a misery until now.  Hot in the sun today around 74°F. Bonus on this trip was running into friends we met last year from England.
